I am delighted to hear that Program-Specific Professor Masaki Kashiwara has been awarded the 2025 Abel Prize.

Dr. Kashiwara found and established the basic theory of D-modules which combines analysis and algebra. He also solved the Riemann-Hilbert Problem in higher dimensions as an application, which was a magnificent integration of geometry, algebra, and analysis. His discovery of the crystal basis for quantum groups motivated by mathematical physics was a brilliant achievement in the representation theory. His contributions to algebraic analysis and representation theories have been tremendous.

We are very pleased that Dr. Kashiwara’s outstanding research achievements over the years have been recognized worldwide, and that he has been honored by this prestigious award. I would like to express my deepest admiration again and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
